Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to address national troops in the Pokrovsk area on the weekday. Zelenskyy announced that he engaged with fighters at the operational headquarters of the 1st Corps of the state defense force Azov, which is leading defense efforts in the Dobropillya area, a location approximately a short distance from Pokrovsk.

Volatile Conditions in the Region

Recent mapping from a national effort showed that invading troops had made gains into the city and surrounding areas, though much of it remained beyond firm control by any party. The status is precarious, with reports indicating that invading units were fortifying positions and strengthening posts in some districts.

Invading troops continue to advance in the Pokrovsk sector and are reportedly acting with increasing comfort within urban Pokrovsk.

Research institutes noted that Ukrainian forces had liberated a significant portion of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya direction, on the eastern flank of the Pokrovsk operation.

National Aerial Attacks Deep Inside Russia

Ukrainian long-range drones attacked an industrial plant approximately over 800 miles inside Russia at the city. Regional authorities reported an explosion at the industrial complex that caused its water treatment facility to suffer damage, adding that the origin of the detonation was undetermined. The Ukrainian military general staff stated there was considerable damage to the complex.

Defense units confirmed attacking a Lukoil oil refinery at the location in the Russian region to the east of the capital. The degree of impact was under evaluation. The Russian regional governor confirmed an attack by multiple unmanned aircraft near the area.

Kremlin Security Strategic Shifts

Russian military reservists will now have to guard oil refineries against unmanned assaults after Vladimir Putin enacted a decree on Tuesday increasing their involvement in the military campaign. The head of state also enacted a decree permitting draft enrollment throughout the year whereas earlier it occurred only during specific times in cooler seasons. Russian law prohibits draftees from being assigned to fighting, but after their defense commitment they become part of the backup units, placing them in danger of being deployed to conflict.

Heavy military spending have also started to strain the Russian state budget, with authorities hiking rates to cover increasing gaps.

Zelenskyy's Appeals for International Support

The Ukrainian president appealed to Washington to stay receptive to supplying Kyiv with extended-distance arms. Appealing to European leaders from the eastern front, the head of state also demanded more global measures on Russia – including on fuel and power segments – and said he desired European Union membership by the end of the 2020s.
