The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.

The president noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full message from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on next week.

Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming him soon. We are all eager to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President

Experience of the New Head

Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate further news as creation advances.
